Spread across a floor area of more than 13million square feet (which is more than 50 football fields), the Dubai mall has over 1200 shops, 120 cafes and restaurants, a 250 room luxury hotel, an underwater zoo, world’s biggest indoor snow park and much more. The mall has a parking space available for over 14000 vehicles. Besides creating the world record, The Dubai Mall has won awards for the Future Retail Project at Cannes, Best Large Retail Development Scheme and Best Use of Lighting in a large Retail Environment. Even the Dubai Mall brochure collected 3 awards at the Summit Creative Awards in Portland.
2. Tallest Building in the world
People of Dubai do not just make a structure, they are obsessed with making a world class structure that not only makes world records but also makes it very difficult to beat it. One such building is the Burj Khalifa. It is not only the tallest building in the world standing at 830meters but also is a building with most floors, has the world fastest and longest distance elevator as well. It has world class hotels, residences and offices, thus, making it an urban masterpiece.
3. Tallest Hotel in the world
The J.W. Marriott marquis Hotel in Dubai holds the record of being the tallest hotel in the world. It is 1164 feet above the ground. This 5-star hotel boasts of a total of 1600 rooms spread across 72 amazing floors. The view from the suites is spectacular as it offers an enthralling sight of the city. It is located in the business center of the city and has every good attraction at a close proximity. The tallest hotel offers a luxury spa, fitness center, meeting room, and a relaxing pool.
4. Longest 22-Karat gold chain- Handmade
To mark a celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Dubai shopping festival, Dubai relived its name of being the “City of Gold” by building a handmade 22 carat gold chain that is so far the longest gold chain in the world. The chain weighs 564 pounds (256kg) and has 4 million links. Spread it on the road and it will go up to 5.5kms without a break. It took over a 100 people and a total of 45 days to make this world record holding exorbitant chain.
5. World’s largest Snow Park
Dubai always makes itself indispensible for its tourists. If you thought Dubai has to offer only Desert, then visit the world’s largest indoor snow park with an area of 22500 square meters. It contains icy body slide, climbing towers, ice caves, giant snowballs, along with a 400 meter long run and 5 different slopes of different steepness. You also have penguins to interact with.
6. World’s largest Dancing fountain- The Dubai Fountain
The aquatically choreographed rendition of the popular song “Time to say Goodbye”, the Dubai fountain made the entire world dance to its tunes and set a new Guinness Book of World using 6600 lights. It keeps 83000 liters of water airborne, at a height of up to 150meters (approximately 50 storeys). The Dubai fountain is situated at the Dubai mall, again the world’s biggest mall of the world. It costed a whopping Rs1.5 billion to build the fountain and make it a world record sight to watch.
7. World’s largest acrylic window- The Dubai Underwater Zoo and Aquarium
View the magnificent underwater world through the 8.3mtrs high, 32.88mtrs wide and weighing 245,614kgs world’s largest acrylic viewing window in the world. It has everything, from nature’s most feared species of animals to the cutest ones. View over 70 different marine species through the acrylic window and live an experience of a lifetime.
8. Dubai Miracle Garden
The Dubai miracle garden is home to 45 million blooming flowers in mesmerizing shapes, stunning structures and designs. There are so many different varieties of color combinations that it makes for a jaw-dropping view. The garden holds the world record for the longest wall of blooming flowers, thus, making it a must-visit tourist attraction. The flower arrangements are changed every season to give visitors a new look.
Very recently in 2014, Dubai made another world record in displaying the world’s biggest fireworks welcoming the New Year in a dramatic style. It smashes every other record with its stunning display of fireworks in an unforgettable way. The show was not only spectacularly beautiful but it also created history by bursting approx 80,000 shells a minute. It bursted a total of 479651 shells in a span of six minutes at a rate of 1332 shells/second. People who saw it live and on video were left awe struck.
There is no dearth of world record holding sites in Dubai. Many more of such amazing ventures are in process and it’s hard to imagine how many more records will be built and how many would be broken once they get completed.
